James Belushi ist am 15. Juni 1954 in Chicago, USA geboren.

Er war der dritte von vier Geschwistern. John Belushi von den Blues Brothers war sein Bruder, der 1982 in Hollywood an einer Überdosis Drogen starb. James Belushi ist zweimal geschieden und seit 1998 wieder verheiratet. Er hat ein Kind aus erster Ehe und zwei Kinder aus der dritten Ehe.
